ginger beer
17 Oct 2026
On the one hand, some people know how to make a good ginger beer. On the other hand, some people are wimps.
The key property is that a ginger beer should kick you in the face, and not be too sweet. Your eyes should water from the vapors. You should cough. Many people are (a) afraid of being kicked in the face and (b) add too much sugar.
Here is my current ranking. I will update it as I find more. Reach out if you have suggestions: [email protected].
- harmony springs. hard to find, but impeccable
- jamaican choice. a new addition
- maine root spicy. could be spicier, but good
- fentimans. the best of the legacy bottlers
- tower beverage. another MA local
- trader joe’s ginger brew. pretty good in a pinch. interesting spice.
- green bee ginger buzz. technically a honey soda, not a ginger beer, but not bad for what it was.
- fever tree premium. premium is overselling it here
- reeds. not good! however, i have not yet found their “strongest” flavor
- captain eli. much to my chagrin.
- goslings. way to sweet.
- fever tree regular. actively bad. “long-lasting ginger character” ok
Once I boiled a whole chunk of ginger in water and added a bit of sugar. That was good.
